Ritual of predicting gender as old as making babies

A recent survey by Mothering.com found that fewer than 20 percent of expectant parents will wait until their baby's birth to find out its gender. And now, it turns out a few thousand American moms-to-be couldn't even wait until the 20-week ultrasound. In the past year, more than 4,500 bought the Baby Gender Mentors, a $275 blood test that claimed 99.9 percent accuracy in determining a baby's sex at five weeks gestation. Although Acu-Gen Biolab provided no proof to back up that claim, the manufacturer did offer a 200 percent money-back guarantee if the results were wrong. Sound too good to be true? Maybe so. More than 40 women have filed a class action lawsuit against Acu-Gen Biolab after the company refused to honor its money-back guarantee. It seems the test results were wrong more often than they were right.
