Doctors Miss Milk Allergy In Babies
Almost eight out of ten doctors believe that their colleagues don't know how to diagnose milk allergies in a baby. The figure comes from a new survey by the medical group Act Against Allergy. They polled 500 doctors and found that nearly 80% believed that their colleagues confused the symptoms of milk allergies with other conditions. Babies suffering from a cow's milk allergy may have diarrhoea, skin rashes and wheezing. 'If a parent suspects their baby has a milk allergy then they should see their GP who can refer them to a paediatric dietician,' says Judith Moore, paediatric dietician and spokeswoman for the British Dietetics Association. But she added that it the allergy can be difficult for doctors to spot. 'If you take a good medical history then you can pick it up but it can be difficult to diagnose.
